OnCore Ambassadors: Maiya and Misa Tanaka
Maiya Tanaka
Maiya has a strong competitive golf background with 25 years of golf experience and currently teaches golf full time in San Diego. A former UCLA Bruin, Maiya played for the womens golf team as a walk-on and turned professional in 2009. After 5 years on and off the professional tours in US and Canada, Maiya discovered her passion for teaching the game and took a position as a teaching professional in the Hamptons, NY. Maiya studied under some of the most knowledgeable professionals in the industry and returned to San Diego to continue to teach and share her passion for the game. She has showcased this passion through appearances on tv shows such as the Golf Channel’s Big Break: Sandals, ABC’s Holey Moley, and has competed with her sister Misa on CBS’s The Amazing Race.

Misa Tanaka
Misa is from San Diego and started golf at the age of 12 with her sister, Maiya and brother, Lance at Pro Kids Golf Academy (First Tee).
She played in various San Diego Junior Golf events and attended Mira Mesa High school where she played golf on the boy’s team her first three years. Her home course was the infamous, Torrey Pines Golf Course. During her senior year of high school, Misa formed the girl’s golf team along with her professional golfer sister, Maiya who was also her partner on CBS’ “The Amazing Race.” She’s a game show enthusiast and made it all the way to the Showcase Showdown on “The Price is Right” with Bob Barker and most recently, season two of “Holey Moley.” She has a passion for playing in charity golf tournaments and making new friends on the golf course.
